Memorial Day Volunteers Needed

Memorial Day Riverside National Cemetary

As Memorial Day fast approaches volunteers are needed to place American flags on every grave at the Riverside National Cemetery! The Riverside National Cemetery is located on 22495 Van Buren Blvd. in Riverside, CA 92518, just west of the March Air Reserve Base. The flags get placed on each grave to honor our vets.

Flag Walks were first organized in 2012 by Brennan Leininger. Leininger, honorably discharged U.S. Air Force serviceman, noticed few flags at the cemetery on the important holiday. By cooperating with other volunteers, they grew a movement that continues to be organized every year on both Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

The miniature flags that get placed are cleaned by volunteers during the off-season and repurposed every year. There needs to be enough volunteers in order to cover the 200,000 graves. The Riverside National Cemetery is the largest cemetery managed by the National Cemetery Administration. It covers 1,250 acres and is almost at complete capacity.

The flags will be placed on Saturday, May 27th and picked up on Tuesday, May 30th. Expect at least three hours for all the flags to be placed. Please email AFlagForEveryHero@HonoringOurFallen.Org for more information.
